How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
That depends on your individual condition, but usually to start with weekly sessions are recommended. Benefits are often felt after the first or second treatment although please keep in mind that long-standing and chronic conditions usually need more time to improve. Top-up treatments every few weeks are also a good idea once your health has improved.
We’ve all heard the saying “prevention is better than cure” and acupuncture is a very effective way of helping with this. Many people like to have maintenance sessions, often when the seasons change to help move smoothly through the year.
What does acupuncture feel like?
Most people find acupuncture a very relaxing treatment. You may feel something like a tingling or dull ache when the needle is first inserted but this is a good signs as it shows the body's Qi, or vital energy, has been stimulated.
Should my GP be told about my acupuncture treatment?
It’s a good idea to let your doctor know if you plan to have acupuncture if you are currently receiving treatment from your doctor. I’ll need to know the medication you are taking as this may affect your response to the acupuncture treatment.
Should I continue to take my prescribed medication while having acupuncture treatment?
YES, you should never stop taking medication without professional guidance.
When you come to my home do I need to provide anything?
No, I bring everything I need with me, although this is quite a bit! I bring my massage couch, towels and pillows. It’s a good idea to think about where you would like me to set up. A living room is usually a good place, anywhere you will feel comfortable and can get the peace and quiet you will benefit from. Please also keep in mind that I will need access to a sink to ensure I can properly wash my hands. I take hygiene very seriously so I also need to ask that pets are kept out of the room I will be using.
I’m not sure I have the space for you to set up, or whether I feel comfortable having someone in my home.
Can I see you anywhere else?
I quite understand that not everyone feels comfortable having someone they don’t know in their home. I currently have a few sessions available to see clients at the Coleby Centre in Sidcup. Please get in touch to find out more.
